Ashley Barrett is a second year rabbinical student at HUC-JIR. Ashley grew up in Wooster, Ohio, and calls Temple Israel in Akron her Jewish home. She also spent a dozen summers at URJ OSRUI in Wisconsin, and she would not be on her journey to become a Rabbi without Jewish summer camp. Ashley graduate from Miami University in 2014, where she studied History and Jewish studies. After graduation she spent a year in Ramla, Israel teaching English and volunteering in the community in which she lived. Her next stop was St. Louis, MO where Ashley served the Washington University Jewish community as the Program and Engagement Associate at WashU Hillel.
She tell us, “The Cleveland area is my home, so I choose Cleveland sports over everything else. You know I am dedicated, because if you know Cleveland sports that’s a roller coaster relationship. Although I currently don’t have any pets, I’m an equal opportunity pet lover, so I can’t wait to meet you and your pets! The top 3 places to visit, in my opinion are, Paris, Jerusalem, and Amish Country in Ohio – trust me it’s gorgeous and delicious! The first thing I think of when I hear “Texan” has to be the food, mostly BBQ, but I’ve heard a lot about Texas food! And lastly, I’m a middle child, love exploring new places (and coffee shops!) and can’t wait to become a part of the extended Congregation Beth Shalom family this school year!”
